"I supported this application for EUR 5 364 000 of EGF assistance for 2161 workers and 8 suppliers and downstream producers made redundant from Microsoft in Finland. Unfortunately, this application is a continuation of the decline of Nokia, which Microsoft acquired, and the knock-on impacts of the decline of the EU’s share of the ICT sector, on which Finland’s economy is particularly dependant. The software sector is particularly susceptible to the effects of globalisation, having become highly international, with industry competing for the same customers, and increasingly location and personnel background are having less significance. I am pleased to see that the provision of the personalised services package put together by the Finnish authorities will make up 80% of the total use of the application and includes job and career coaching, training, employment and business services, start-up grants and allowances for travel and overnight costs. I am also pleased to see that the income support measures under the application amount to 16.64% of the overall package of personalised measures, which is well below the 35% limit, and that these actions are conditional on the active participation of the targeted beneficiaries in job-search or training activities."@en1
