"Mr President, this is a very important topic, and again I think it shows the genuine commitment of the European Union to helping all peoples in the world. It is a commitment that is genuine and sincere and to which we give a lot of support and for which we get very little credit, not to mention publicity. Nevertheless, it is work that needs to be done, because when millions and millions of people around the world – especially children – are dying of malnutrition on the one hand, and then in our own first-world many of them are suffering from obesity, there is a reconciliation there that needs to be done, which will not be easy. One area that I would like to see much more emphasis placed on is the whole area of research and development – especially research. With climate change, some places are getting warmer and drier while other places are getting wetter and colder. Crops need to adjust, and I think we need to do a lot more research in that regard."@en1
