"Labour MEPs voted in favour of this report which examines the activities of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), its effects and the trends of the fund. Labour has consistently supported the EGF out of solidarity for workers across Europe and this report outlines the effectiveness of the fund for its beneficiaries. It particularly highlights the view to see the EGF used to its full potential, by calling for it to complement other available instruments and seek consultation of major stakeholders.
Social solidarity is a core value of the European Union, and the EGF is an expression of such solidarity. It is an instrument that allows the EU to democratise globalisation, and minimise damage to communities that may be caused by international trade. It is the EU that often steps in when national governments fail to do so."@en1
