So, this report deals with the appraisal of economic and social policies within the European Union and I would hope, as this report highlights, that the role and opinion of Parliament will be better considered by the Council as we move forward. This is a very important point. We find ourselves at a critical stage, where the spirit of cooperation between European institutions should not be called into question, nor should it act as an obstacle to the development of more effective policies at Member State level. Staying in line with the Stability and Growth Pact and remaining responsive to economic change, we may together – and together is the key word – promote the development and accommodation of a more skilled and adaptable workforce, providing for sustainable and inclusive growth across all Member States."@en1
