"Mr President, I would also like to add the voice of my Group to that of the rapporteur. This attitude on the part of the Council is an ongoing problem and it is not just about timetabling. It is a pity because there are a lot of good ideas in this work this evening.
Our governments are generally short of good ideas. We can see this in the continuing high levels of unemployment in many of our countries – and, indeed, low levels do not always mean everything is perfect. I note that my British colleague totally forgot to mention the number of people who increasingly are on zero-hour contracts and, of course, that is a national competence and nothing to do with the European Union.
It is hardly inclusive growth. They are also failing to tackle discrimination on the labour market, so talent and qualifications are going to waste. But I would also like to point out that we have a clear risk here of forgetting that we have to deal with the challenges of climate change, which figures as a clear goal of the 2020 strategy. I would like to thank our rapporteur and the committee for trying to rectify that in our opinion on the labour market guidelines."@en1
