"I abstained on this report. While it contained many good elements, drawing attention to both the progress Tunisia has made towards a democratic transition, such as peaceful transition over the summer despite a split in Nidaa Tounes, and issues that must be addressed, such as the criminalisation of homosexuality and the fact that the death penalty remains as a possible penalty for certain offences (though hasn’t been used since 1991), references to EU military missions meant I could not support it.
The report called for the intensification of the EUNAVOR MED mission, whose mission is is to "identify, capture and dispose of vessels" carrying refugees in the Mediterranean. As Sinn Féin disagrees with this military mission, I could not support the report."@en1
