"Mr President, it is quite nice to be able to speak after Guy Verhofstadt in this House for once. Since we overtook his Group at the European elections I have not had the chance. But, Guy, I am not saying that this House is a cause of nationalism. However, if you continue to ignore the concerns of citizens, if you continue to focus on EU integration rather than on creating jobs, if you continue to press on regardless, you will drive voters into the arms of those whom you call populists. Yes, the UK will leave the European Union, but it is not as though there is some gain for any of us. We need each other to be prosperous, and the UK and the EU will continue to cooperate. The EU and the UK both need policies to provide security, to deliver jobs and to offer opportunities for citizens in all the countries represented here today. I am afraid, however, that what we heard today was not a State of the Union. It was the same old mantras: it was a state of the reunion."@en1
