lpv:spoken text	"I, along with the majority of my colleagues, supported this own initiative report on an EU strategy for the Alpine region which follows a number of similar macro-regional strategy reports for the Baltic Sea Region and the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. The report outlines a number of key areas where greater regional cooperation can be initiated with the goal of bringing countries, once in conflict, closer together while simultaneously growing the regional economy. Likewise, I was pleased that the rapporteur called for the use of the European Fund for Strategic Investment to be utilised in joined up macro strategies. This fund was specifically designed to reinvigorate investment in national and local economies and to incentivise further private investment. Using the fund, in conjunction with the EIB, could greatly help to create long term investment in such regional areas. Although I was supportive of the role that EFSI and private investment can play in a regional area, I did however support an amendment which called for the protection of water resources as I believe water is a public commodity and should not be privatised. Unfortunately this amendment did not pass."@en1
