"Mr President, I listened very carefully to the debate here this morning on this issue, and I am pleased to support this report, in which this extremely important committee of inquiry has asked for support on all the measures needed for it to fulfil its mandate. It is important that Parliament gives support to the committee to ensure they can hold hearings, bring the relevant people before them and get the right insights into the automotive-sector emissions scandal from last year. The hearings that the committee has held thus far have managed to provide some very interesting insights, as we heard this morning. I am pleased that it is working to get to the bottom of the scandal. Ensuring that the rules we make at EU and national level are adhered to is vital, and the fitting of the so-called defeat devices by Volkswagen is a clear breach of those rules. We must ensure that companies who cheat the system are found out and exposed, not least because they undermine our efforts to limit our carbon emissions and to ensure high-quality ambient air for our citizens."@en1
