"This is the first international treaty that the EU has ratified. I think the question was about future legislation and whether there is some way that people can vindicate their rights in court, because that is sometimes the only way that people can vindicate their rights. Well, obviously, with any European legislation that is ratified by Member States, people with disabilities or other persons can always vindicate those rights in court. For example, we saw a case some years back where a woman who had a child with disabilities in the UK was able to vindicate her rights as to, if you like, second—hand discrimination, in the ECJ, because of the fact that she was treated unfairly because she had a child with disabilities. Actually indirect discrimination is the proper term for that. So that is an example of how somebody was able to vindicate their rights in court because of the legislation that we had here in the Parliament."@en1
