"Mr President, it could be said that human trafficking is the modern example, despicable as it is, of man’s inhumanity to man – or perhaps man’s inhumanity to woman and child, because it is nearly always women and children who are exploited and trafficked. Ms Morvai asked a question on what the European Union has been doing and where the results of all its efforts are. Well, in fairness, if we look at what was happening in the Mediterranean prior to action by the European Union in dealing with the people-smugglers from North Africa, at least there has been a reduction in that area. But, within Europe, the fact that 12 000 children have disappeared is a cause for major concern and obviously means that Europol and the Member State security forces have to cooperate far more in the future to try and bring these perpetrators of man’s inhumanity to fellow man to justice and, hopefully, custodial sentences."@en1
