"The resolution sets down general principles and guidelines for EU trade policy. I voted in favour as I believe these principles are in line with the principles that my Labour colleagues and I share, such as reaffirming that commitment to the multilateral approach is the first best option; that enforceable sustainable development chapters should be added in trade agreements; that the EU needs to focus increasingly on implementation of concluded agreements; and that the European Parliament wants the TTIP transparency initiative extended to all negotiations. The resolution also emphasises that labour and environmental standards must be respected throughout the supply chain and reaffirms that trade only delivers for ordinary people when paired with the right flanking measures (such as social policy, education, public investment)."@en1
