"I voted against this resolution. While there were was some constructive language around low-carbon economies, illegal wildlife trade and some mention of the precautionary principle, overall this was a very negative report which contained some very regressive provisions. In particular, it called for the Trade Agreement CETA to be ratified as swiftly as possible for the ‘future interests of EU businesses’. Sinn Féin in Europe have worked tirelessly to highlight the dangers of these trade agreements. It welcomes the TTIP reading rooms for MEPs as a Commission ‘transparency initiative’ despite the fact that any MEP has to sign a confidentiality agreement before entering the room. It should be remembered that what’s inside the reading room is just the tip of the iceberg; the most sensitive documents are still hidden to MEPs and even national governments. The resolution also recognises the Commission’s efforts in bringing forward the new Investment Court System, which holds the sole purpose of allowing corporations to sue governments for enacting policies through the democratic system. For these reasons I voted against this resolution and in favour of both alternative resolutions since they cover Sinn Féin’s main concerns on corporate trade."@en1
