"This file follows on from another file voted on at the last plenary on property regimes of international couples. It seeks to define the rules applicable for jurisdiction, applicable law and the enforcement of decisions for international registered partnerships concerning property regimes. The last vote was consent of the Parliament for 17 Member States to proceed through the enhanced cooperation system, i.e. not through the normal EU legislative process. The Parliament now has to give its consent to the framework content of proposals by the European Commission, after which, negotiations between these countries will begin outside of the normal EU legislative process. The resolution basically asks the Council to notify Parliament if negotiations depart from the framework presented today. As these regulations will not affect national family law in the participating Member States, but merely set out clear rules to determine what jurisdiction is applicable and ensure enforcement of decisions in the case of international matrimonial disputes. I was happy to vote in favour. I am disappointed that the Irish Government has chosen to opt out given the added value this could have for citizens."@en1
