"UKIP voted today in favour of rejecting the Delvaux Report on Promoting free movement by simplifying the acceptance of certain public documents.
Enforcing a regime under which Member States are, effectively, forced to recognise certain civil documents produced as part of the exercise of the right to freedom of movement will lead to an enforced lowering of the guard on checking the veracity of the contents and genuineness of the document itself.
This is a criminal and terrorist forger’s charter and is a threat to the security of the UK and our ability properly to check documentation.
It affects only 2.4% of the population of the entire EU: the case for the need for this legislation has not been made out.
The claimed keystone of the regulation is the creation of multilingual standard forms for most of the public documents concerned: this is no less than the precursor to an EU-wide and EU-controlled system of civil documentation. The rapporteur’s claimed concern to preserve the sovereignty of the Member States with regard to family law is thus bogus. Finally, as a matter of principle, we vote against EU legislation."@en1
