"There was only one amendment to this file, which was an amendment to reject. I voted against that amendment, thus endorsing the agreed text.
The file concerns the simplification of acceptance of certain public documents. By this, the file is not about the harmonisation, nor standardisation of these public documents, nor does it oblige Member States to accept the content of these public documents.
The main way acceptance is simplified is the exemption from legislation, apostille or similar formalities for a set list of public documents including birth, death, name, marriage, divorce, registered partnership, parenthood, adoption, domicile, nationality, and absence of a criminal record. In theory, persons producing these documents will not have to go through expensive and lengthy procedures legalising or translating these documents any more.
As this will get rid of a lot of unnecessary bureaucracy for EU citizens, but will not affect national family or administrative law (or raise sovereignty issues), I voted in favour."@en1
