"I voted in favour of this report which was concerned with the simplification of acceptance of certain public documents. By simplifying the procedure, this will facilitate procedures for Irish citizens moving between Member States.
The main ways acceptance is simplified are the exemption from legislation, apostille or similar formalities for a set list of public documents including birth, death, name, marriage, divorce, registered partnership, parenthood, adoption, domicile, nationality, and absence of a criminal record. In theory, persons producing these documents will not have to go through expensive and lengthy procedures legalising or translating these documents any more. For now diplomas, certificates of disabilities and documents related to established businesses have been excluded.
As this will not affect national family or administrative law, there are no sovereignty issues and so therefore I voted in favour of this report."@en1
