"This new public documents regulation is a key measure that benefits citizens exercising their rights to live anywhere within the European Union. It allows official certificates of birth, death, nationality and some other similarly important documents to be accepted more readily by relevant authorities throughout the EU without the need to pay for expensive administration or translation procedures. The regulation allows for user-friendly multilingual standard forms. It does not encroach upon the rights of Member States to issue official certificates and it respects their jurisdiction to conclude bilateral international agreements with third countries on such matters. The new regulation also supports public authorities making proper enquiries of their counterparts in other EU countries through innovative information technology coordination and systems to help ensure that free movement for people operates smoothly."@en1
