"Madam President, I am very happy with this resolution, and I am also happy that the rail supply industry has been explicitly recognised in the recent Joint Warsaw Declaration of the Friends of Industry as a strategic manufacturing sector for the development of Europe.
Whilst I welcome the Commission’s Fourth Rail Package, we also need to ensure that the Third Rail Package is fully and properly implemented. Furthermore, I am happy to say that studies have shown that rail markets will continue to grow on all continents, and there are therefore great business opportunities to seize for European rail suppliers. However, at the same time, we see that European rail supply companies face a critical challenge to their global market leadership with industrial competition from Asia, and especially China, becoming increasingly fierce and problematically unfair. We need to be aware of this and avert the risk of job losses.
Finally, I want to say that mitigation of climate change and shifting toward sustainable, energy-efficient and clean technological development of the industry will be essential for its growth. I welcome the resolution, greatly highlighting these aspects in line with COP 21."@en1
