"I voted in favour of this objection, as did the majority of my colleagues. Like other recent objections to the placing on the market of GMO products, the problem continues to be that the Commission is trying to exceed its implementing powers provided for in the GM Regulation 1829/2003 after the Member States deliver a non-opinion. Earlier this year, the Commission attempted to mitigate the rigour of this authorisation system through a proposal to amend Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003, which would enable Member States to opt out from an EU-approved GMO by restricting or prohibiting its use based on a set of legal reasons. In October 2015, the Parliament rejected the proposal due to a variety of concerns including the potentially disruptive effects that it might have on the functioning of the internal market. As well as that, I have always been a supporter of environmentally safe farming methods and because of this; I advocate the precautionary principle when it comes to GMO products."@en1
