"I was not able to support my other Socialist colleagues on this report as I believe that it represents an unacceptable endorsement of industrial factory farming and its utter disrespect for the environment and animal welfare standards. Behind the smokescreen of high-tech solutions and ‘precision agriculture’, conservative (both small ‘c’ and large ‘C’) MEPs are trying to push forward even more environmentally damaging policies. It is completely unacceptable for Parliament to endorse any further increases of food production at a time of massive food waste and the immense climate impacts that unsustainable meat and dairy consumption produces. The agricultural policy of the EU needs to be made more balanced, taking into account food production, the environment and climate change. It cannot keep serving the interests of big agri-industries as it has been doing almost exclusively."@en1
