"I voted against this report, which was particularly regressive and sponsored a principally negative agenda. The report repeatedly called for increased production and the intensification of agricultural activities, using a growing population as the justification for this. Moreover, this report also called for more uptake by famers in the use of drones and ‘technology driven’ machinery, all with the aim of taking farmers off the land and causing considerable extra costs for small farmers. The report suggests that any farmers who lose their jobs as a result of these robotically—driven tractors can simply be retrained, which is a very myopic stance to take. The report further asks the Commission to take into account the use of this technology by farmers when assessing their eligibility for greening payments in CAP, but doesn’t draw attention to the fact that the vast majority of farmers won’t be able to afford this. It was for these reasons that I voted against this report."@en1
