"A Uachtaráin, arís vótáil mé le mo ghrúpa sna trí vóta ar an tuarascáil seo agus is tuarascáil suimiúil é.
because this deals with unfair trading practices. The word ‘unfair’ is more or less accepted as a reality and it has to be dealt with. It looks at the way to evaluate the situation around this practice and the most appropriate ways to give food producers and retailers adequate protection against these
trading practices. The report looked at issues such as the effectiveness of voluntary schemes, the supply chain initiative, private own-brand label products and the fear factor in commercial relations.
There was a big question about whether we should have a harmonised legislative approach at EU level or not. At the end of the day, the committee and the EPP decided that they would stick with a voluntary scheme, identifying unfair trading practices and addressing all challenges faced within the EU when tackling unfair trading practices. I hope the report will lead to the elimination of unfair trading practices but I’ll not hold my breath."@en1
