"I voted in favour of this report which concerned opening enhanced cooperation between 17 Member States in order to define the rules applicable for jurisdiction, applicable law and the enforcement of decisions for international couples. Although the content for any potential piece of legislation has not been agreed yet, preliminary frameworks state that future rules would not seek to change the content of family law in any participating EU country, or affect their right to define marriage or registered partnerships. Therefore, I am disappointed that Ireland opted out. Solving these kinds of procedural problems for international couples would have gone a long way to reducing unnecessary bureaucracy."@en1
