"A Uachtaráin, ar dtús aontaím leis an gCoimisinéir Hill gur gá an pacáiste seo a chur siar go dtí dáta nua an 1 Eanáir 2018 mar tá sé i bhfad níos fearr rud a dhéanamh go déanach agus i gceart ná é a dhéanamh go luath agus mícheart. Dá bhrí sin tá an moladh sin ciallmhar. This is extremely important legislation for a European Union that is in recovery, following the huge hit taken in the global recession. I welcome the move towards well—regulated and well—functioning financial markets in the EU. Financial markets are vital for our economy and for generating the funds needed for growth and recovery to occur. This is clear. However, these markets need to be well regulated, as failure to do so can have detrimental effects on the economy. I particularly welcome legislation on improving investor protection. Measures to prevent conflicts of interest and to improve transparency in this regard were long overdue and are much needed, and I look forward to their implementation. New stringent requirements in communication and disclosure will contribute greatly to reducing dishonest practices and hopefully eliminate the possibilities for opportunistic intermediaries to exploit less—experienced investors and consumers for personal financial gain. In a wider context, this legislation will surely play a big part in stabilising our economy for the years ahead. It should help us to prevent speculative bubbles from occurring once again which would plunge us back into recession. I welcome these measures."@en1
