| lpv:spoken text | "This report was an approval of an application by the French government for the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) of €5.1 million to support 2,132 former drivers from road haulage firm MoryGlobalSAS.
The EGF funds are used to provide re-training and personalised job search supports to workers made redundant as a result of globalisation and major changes in global trade patterns. In recent years changes to the rules of the EGF has meant that workers made redundant as a result of the financial crisis can also be covered by the EGF programmes.
This application was based on the crisis-related criteria, relating to the decline in freight transport in Europe by 13% (and by 21% in France) since the crisis began.
While there were some criticisms raised by French workers of the company’s behaviour in previously seeking and receiving public aid, and then shutting down anyway, I vote in favour of the report to approve the mobilisation of the fund. The aid directly benefits only the workers and not the company."@en1 |
