"The Commissioner claims that he is doing everything within his power to help dairy farmers in distress. He has placed a great deal of reliance on the use of Article 222 from the Common Market Organisation (CMO) Regulation as a stress-relieving measure, so that Member States have the option of funding milk suppliers that cut their production. However the success of this measure is dependent on the Irish Government actually activating the scheme, something it has already said it does not plan on doing. In this situation, what real measures can the Commission claim to have provided directly to the farmers? Its refusal to find a way to suspend super-levy fines shows neglect towards the cash-flow problems being experienced by European farmers."@en1
