"Diane James MEP and her fellow UKIP colleagues abstained on this non legislative, non-binding report. UKIP of course is in favour of clamping down on traffickers and criminal gangs who exploit the poor victims. However the EU has created the perfect environment for trafficking with the free movement of people across Europe. If we allow Turkey to join the EU or agree visa liberalisations this will only make trafficking much worse. UKIP cannot therefore support this report as it calls for more EU legislation and interference in criminal and immigration law. The only way we can deal a blow to the traffickers and save lives is to end the free movement of people and restore sensible and ethical border controls. Only our elected and accountable national government should decide criminal law, border controls and cooperation agreements with other countries, not unaccountable EU institutions."@en1
