"Across the EU, only 10% of men take parental leave, compared to 97% of women. That staggering disparity illustrates the scale of gender inequality that persists in our society. Not only does that disparity in parental leave cost the EU economy EUR 370 billion a year, it also perpetuates gender stereotypes, as well as the social, economic and political exclusion of women.
The less women participate in the economy, the less visible they are, and that invisibility then leads to exclusion, objectification, and violence against women and girls. The EU has worked so far throughout its history to advance gender equality, and it must now take yet another step in breaking that cycle of injustice.
The Commission must now propose new ambitious legislative and non-legislative initiatives to transform this abysmal situation for the better."@en1
