We believe in the importance of defending the interests of farmers and consumers, whilst preventing large retailers confusing buyers. We abstained on the final vote because, as much as we agree with the desirability of mandatory country of origin labelling, this should be a matter for Member States to determine alone. We want the UK Parliament, not the unelected EU Commission to legislate on this matter."@en1
