A mandatory indication of the country of origin or place of provenance for milk – milk used as an ingredient in dairy products – and types of meat other than beef, swine, sheep, goat and poultry meat. If mandatory labelling is to be introduced in these instances, the extra cost that would be put on producers must be taken into account by this Parliament. If mandatory labelling is going to raise the cost of production beyond a feasible level, it may not be the best course of action. Agriculture and food production are both hugely important sectors in Ireland and so I am very concerned about the assessments made on mandatory feasibility.
