"I voted in favour of the proposal for country-by-country reporting because I believe that it is vital, if we are ever to tackle tax dodging, that we make companies report exactly where they make their money and where they pay their taxes. The Commission’s proposal is a step in the right direction, although it still does not go far enough: many more companies should be required to submit these reports, and the reports should be made public, if we are to have true tax transparency. As Labour MEPs we understand the importance of tax transparency; it is a shame that the Tories do not share our values, and have consistently voted against any attempts to shine more light on the murky world of tax avoidance and evasion."@en1
