"This report concerned the extension of the Galileo satellite system to various new sectors and a vote to allow Korea to upgrade their own differential GPS station to Galileo signals.
I voted against this report for a number of reasons, first because of the massive amounts of taxpayers’ money that gets poured into the Galileo Programme every year (EUR 6.3 billion) and second because of the potential for the systems to be used for non-civil purposes. For example, the European Commission considers law enforcement to be a ‘civilian’ purpose, so that this and other such borderline purposes could be put to use under the project."@en1
