"Mr President, on 9 May, exactly 66 years ago, the Schuman Declaration laid out a vision for peace and reconciliation in Europe, rising from the ashes of war and genocide. That vision of solidarity was the foundation for the European Union. As we mark Europe Day, we are sadly once again seeing mass atrocities, genocide and war crimes taking place on our borders, with xenophobia and racism on the rise across Europe. The EU must act in line with its historic heritage and formulate a clear policy and plan of action to stop and prevent genocide and mass atrocities around the world. I have been engaged with the European Grassroots Antiracist Movement, joining a network of parliamentarians working to raise awareness and commemorate genocides in Rwanda, Bosnia and Armenia so that we can learn the lessons of the past. We must use this terrible history as a platform for intercultural dialogue and exchange. Never again!"@en1
