"As the European Union moves to build the digital single market, which aims to turn Europe into a global leader in innovation, we need to empower more women and girls to get involved with ICT. This report lays out a detailed plan to on how to do that. The virtual world of the web is a reflection of our own society, and promoting gender equality in one sphere advances it in the other.
We need early education programmes to erase gender stereotypes, and enable young girls to develop their talents as programmers, coders, and innovators. We need young women to see role models in the industry and progress to higher education in ICT. We need young women professional networks and ICT mentoring and talent development.
All these are projects that the European Union can support, along with sharing best practice across Europe, together with local community organisations, universities and businesses. I hope to see the Commission and Member States follow-up these recommendations with action."@en1
