"1.4 million people in the UK provide over 50 hours of unpaid care per week, 58% of carers are female and statistics indicate that 1/4 women aged 50-64 are carers. This report has highlighted the gap in availability in care provision; very often family members must be caregivers on an informal basis. The UK delegation in Parliament is aware of these challenges; however we are mindful that this issue is not a competency of the EU and must be addressed by local and national governments. This report also highlights the problems around women working in domestic households. In recent years, abuse of domestic workers and the link with irregular migration has been emphasised. The UK Home Office has announced that they are planning to introduce an ‘immediate escape route’ giving the right to domestic workers to switch employers within their first six months in the country and the period that victims of abuse can stay will increase from six months to two years. While we are supportive of the aims of this report, we do believe that these issues are for national governments to address. For this reason the UK delegation abstained on this report."@en1
