"I voted in favour of this report. It was very positive to see Bosnia’s formal submission of an EU membership application; this is a vital step on the road to further reform and the piecing together of a nation and society that has suffered far too much in the Yugoslav wars. While those scars will always be there, it is important to recognise that Bosnia-Herzegovina has come a long way since the end of the war in 1995, and we must maintain this very positive momentum going forward to ensure that Bosnia sees full and proper reform of both government and civil society.
It is important that the path towards EU membership is a broad and inclusive process for the whole of society providing opportunities for Bosnians. It also represents a vital opportunity to build the spirit of amity in the Balkans. Where before there was only recrimination and violence there are now the first beginnings of accord and perhaps even understanding. We look forward to a year of significant reforms in Bosnia-Herzegovina for the benefit of all Bosnians."@en1
