"Madam President, as a member of the delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina I have made a commitment to developing a deep relationship with civil society grassroots organizations and, in particular, young people, who are, after all, the future. I have made several visits to the country in order to get to know and build long-lasting trusting relationships with young people, who I believe hold the future of this country in their hands: they must not be let down.
I would like to use this opportunity to praise in particular the work of young people from Srebrenica, Bratunac and Višegrad and other towns and communities in that area who participated in a pan-European project funded by the EU called ‘The complete freedom of truth’. During a three-week project last summer I worked with those young people to help them develop definitions of democracy. Together they really committed to developing new forms of participation amongst each other, and I would just like to read the definition. It is very quick. ‘Democracy is freedom in a framework, powered by people working together for each other with equality, kindness, respect and responsibility.’ Well done, the youth of Srebrenica."@en1
