"This was an incredibly difficult decision to take, and I found many constituents writing to me on both sides of the argument. I had to balance the public health concerns with the risks to farmers and crops if glyphosate does not continue to be used.
The difficulty lies in assessing the two questions: To what extent is glyphosate dangerous? At what level does it become toxic? My understanding of the situation, having reviewed the evidence as best I can, is that glyphosate could be a carcinogen but that the levels encountered are so low as to present little danger. Indeed, I note that glyphosate residues are pretty much even undetectable in food and water.
On the whole, I did not see sufficient evidence to convince me that a ban would be necessary."@en1
