"Mr President, I think we came to a sensible compromise: to ban outright glyphosate at this particular time would not be wise based on improbable evidence. To say that something is probably carcinogenic sounds terrible, and that is why we took the action we took to limit it to seven years. Having said that, Stuart Agnew spoke last night, and he mentioned here on Monday night that other aspects which are regarded as carcinogenic by the WHO are sitting in front of a log fire, cutting human hair, etc. So giving us the space to look at it, to ensure that the product is absolutely safe for humans in the food chain, is ultimately a wise decision. I think that it will allow the farmers to continue with their work, otherwise they would have to stop and grow no arable crops possibly. That would be very disruptive. We have come to a sensible compromise. Let us all work together and ensure that we know exactly what is happening and assure our citizens that everything in their food is absolutely safe."@en1
