"I voted against this Nomination to the Court of Auditors on the grounds that none of the candidates including Janusz Wojciechowski held the required level of professional qualifications or expertise that would be required to satisfactory fulfil the post.
My parties’ policy has always been about transparency, accountability and diversity on all boards, including State Boards. In Ireland, we have seen first had the corrosive culture of cronyism. We are still seeing it in the cronyism of debacle which is currently occurring around Government Formations.
Furthermore, despite concerns being raised by the European Parliament on a number of occasions, all 6 candidates nominated were men.
This is completely unacceptable and serves only to undermine any positive advances which have been made in recent years to increase the number of women in public life.
Sinn Fein will have no hand or part in any such regressive, duplicitous or purposely vague moves. The society we are aiming for is one that is real, meaningful and where issues such as gender equality will be truly tackled and where cronyism is confined to the political dustbin of life."@en1
