"I supported this application for the mobilisation of the EGF for 647 workers made redundant in Volvo Trucks and its suppliers and downstream producers as a result of globalisation in the manufacture of commercial vehicles sector. This is a relatively small segment within the larger automotive industry and is no longer dominated by European manufacturers with increasing competition from Asia. In particular I welcome the fact that 40 000 new employees will be needed in the Västerbotten region and that the measures targeting workers, who regard their educational level as insufficient for the vacancies identified in the region, which require specialised education, will be provided. However it is regrettable that quite a high amount is to be spent on allowances and incentives, at the maximum allowed amount of 35% of the overall package, although they are conditional on the active participation of the targeted beneficiaries in job-search or training activities. It is also unfortunate that the Commission was unable to comply with the deadline for the completion of the assessment of this application which is not in the interest of the beneficiaries although it must be noted this was due to an exceptional shortage of staff."@en1
