"Madam President, on behalf of the people of Northern Ireland, I want to use this opportunity to condemn the terrorist attacks in Brussels. These barbarous attacks were shocking and brutal, and Northern Ireland stands with you in solidarity and determination to defeat terrorism in all its forms.
Sadly, on the same day as the Brussels attack, the community in Northern Ireland was burying one of its own. Prison officer Adrian Ismay was injured and later died when a bomb was planted under his vehicle outside his own home. He was killed by Republican terrorists who have nothing to offer our community but death and tears. I am sure that this House would want to place on record our sympathy to his family and colleagues, and reiterate that we stand together in the defeat of terrorism, whether that be in Brussels, Paris, Madrid or Belfast.
Having listened to this debate today, I would suggest that this will not be done by creating more European agencies, but by the proper collaboration of nation states taking responsibility for the lives and well-being of their citizens."@en1
