"In recent years the amount of nations engaging in distant water fishing has increased dramatically. China, Korea and Taiwan have adhered to aggressive policies to ensure access to dwindling resources. These fleets take less care for the environment, and they do not fulfil their responsibilities to human rights. This provides them with a competitive economic advantage, which vessels from the EU lack. The Long Distance Advisory Council recommended that transparency must be improved in fishing activities. Promotion of harmonisation of condition of access for fleets outside the EU should be worked on. Politics needs to be engaged with in order to aid flag and coastal states in the fight against IUU fishing. Food security could be ensured by ameliorating the supply of fish available."@en1
