"Coastal fishing ensures high levels of employment in depopulated areas. Areas depending on this form of employment need specific measures and support so they can develop and grow. Shortcomings must be acknowledged, particularly in terms of investment in science and the lack of data on seas and oceans. The monitoring of seas and oceans, although improved, is still not sufficient. Data is difficult to access and the procedure for doing so is time-consuming and costly. Tourism, culture and artistic activities could be used to diversify the fisheries sector, thus ensuring its continuation. Activities which tie into renewable energy and environmental protection must be accessed to provide a sustainable future for the fisheries sector."@en1
