"One of the challenges of European mobility programmes such as Erasmus+ is to ensure that they not only reach out to students in higher education but also to more disadvantaged young people who would not otherwise have access to such excellent opportunities to learn abroad.
I therefore welcome this report which calls for expanding and improving mobility for VET – vocational training and education – through existing European programmes, and also through the establishment of a common European framework setting out the options open to young people in terms of available courses, locations, range of professional activities and sectors, companies, duration, the final qualification they would achieve, etc.
Mobility has an undeniable positive effect in terms of the development of skills and competences and, ultimately, the employability of young people. It also represents a key opportunity for self-development of individuals who will learn another language, open up to other cultures and acquire intercultural skills, on top of the acquisition of specific competences. These are the reasons why, together with my fellow Labour MEPs, I voted in favour of this report."@en1
