"The struggle to get young people the opportunities they deserve is an increasingly difficult one. In my own constituency the potential closure of steel works at Port Talbot, Llanwern and others highlights the closing doors that many disadvantaged young people face. Although the EU has helped, through funding for schemes such as Jobs Growths Wales, the Erasmus + programme can provide real extra value, if it can ensure that it meets the needs of disadvantaged young people who are not in formal education. I was therefore very happy to back this report which calls for real effort to go into building up mobility for vocational training and education. This would be achieved both through existing programmes, but also through the establishment of a common European framework setting out the possibilities open to young people. It is often only a lack of information that holds people back; it is rather difficult to take an opportunity if you don’t know that it’s there. These are the reasons why, together with my fellow Labour MEPs, I voted in favour of this report."@en1
