"The REFIT Programme has the proper aim of cutting unnecessary red tape and administrative burden, to promote more effective and appropriate regulation. Today’s vote demonstrates that those of us who argue for fair regulation do not do so for its own sake, but where there is clear benefit for the people we represent. In this report, we call for the protection of workers' rights and secure the role of social dialogue and social partner agreements. We reiterate the importance of consumer, environmental, social, health and safety standards. We support more flexible rules for SMEs, but only if the internal market and ensuring social, ecological and economic objectives are not undermined. We support ‘review clauses’ to regularly reassess legislative measures but deliberately avoided a crude and arbitrary ‘one in, one out’ rule. The report maintains the role of parliamentary oversight. Finally our resolution recognises that four members of the High Level Group of Independent Stakeholders – associations of professionals, environmental, consumer and health representatives – issued a dissenting opinion that there should be a better understanding of the case for appropriate regulation. Our aim should be to lift burdens not just for some, but for all."@en1
