"Mr President, there are five things that the Commissioner can do. Take on the large multiples in the retail sector, whose greed has continually eroded the farmers’ share of the retail price in the last few years. Milk prices have dropped in the region of 40% in the last 18 months and the consumer has not seen the benefit, yet the Commission sees no need for regulatory action in its weak response to its report on unfair trading. Take on the cartels and the primary processing sector. We are talking about a crisis in agriculture and how there is no money for farmers, but there is still EUR 38 million for Larry Goodman to buy himself a new private jet. Where did that money come from? Out of the farmers’ pockets. Examine the farmer input sectors and defend our interests in TTIP. Many studies have shown that agriculture will be the main loser in this trade agreement despite some of the claims about dairy exports. Reject the Mercosur deal. The trade deal with the South American countries will completely undermine the viability of European agriculture. Finally, while people are paying back bank debts, they cannot afford to pay decent money for food. Change that and there will be more money to buy food."@en1
