"Mr President, I think everyone agrees that the crisis in agriculture throughout Europe has been about the worst we have experienced – certainly it is the worst experienced in my political lifetime of almost 27 years in this Parliament. I would like to say first that I do welcome the measures that have been taking place, but I have to say that they were not the solution. I also have to say that there are no easy solutions to the present problem we have.
Commissioner, I would also like to say to you that, on the one hand, we are doing – and you are doing – all we can to help, but on the other hand, we are using agriculture as a bargaining chip in free trade negotiations with Mercosur and with TTIP. Is that a sensible way to go forward? Do you really understand that farmers cannot understand where Europe is hoping to go? You came to the Committee on Agriculture recently and you said that you were going to tackle bureaucracy and that there would be changes in the yellow card, for instance: one strike and two strikes. Now I understand that the Court of Auditors is making sure that does not happen! Commissioner, it has become even more complicated than what you tried to solve. Will you take that up and try and solve it?"@en1
